When designing theme parks, shows, and attractions, creating unique and engaging characters is paramount.
It all begins with storytelling – and in most cases, relatable characters are the vessels used to tell those tales, or at least set an experience in motion.
Designing a successful original character is much more complicated than working with already-established IPs or brands; the skill of the artist must shine through to create an entity that guests
of all ages can relate to and/or react to emotionally, whether it be a cute critter, wild-eyed inventor, or a threatening mechanical overlord from the farthest reaches of space.
Not only must original characters connect on a personal level with guests during an experience, they need to be marketable for the client so that they can translate smoothly to all other aspects of branding, from publicity to targeted merchandising.
